The Tasks have been designed to provide you with practise in the essential skills taught by the Course. As you progress through the Course materials you will be prompted to complete a Task at various points. You should return to the Main Menu and select the link to Tasks. This example will use the Word Processing module. The following screen will be displayed.

This screen and its related Help screen describe what you need to do to download the Tasks.

You MUST install the Task Player first. Follow the instructions in the Help Page. Start by clicking on the Install Electric Paper Task Player link. The following screen will be displayed:

Choose to Open the file.
The installation program will appear:

Choose a download location.
You must select an appropriate location to save the files. The most appropriate location is generally the computer drive to which you have unrestricted access. If you are working from home this is likely to be your c: or d: drive and the installation program will choose to download to the c:\Task folder by default. If you are working in a learning centre, they may have set aside space for you on a network drive, or they may suggest that you save all of your work to an external storage location such as a floppy disc, a rewritable CD-ROM etc. Please ask your learning centre for guidance. The installation program will allow you to change the location to which you save your files.
Once you have selected a location, choose Next and once installation is complete select Finish in the dialogue box which appears.
You now need to download the files for the particular Task you wish to complete. Select the appropriate link from the Task download page. You will now repeat the installation procedure, taking care to save these files to the same location in which you saved your Task Player. The installation program will warn you if you try to select a different location:

When successful you will see the following screen:

Selecting Finish will automatically launch the Task Player and allow you to select the Task to complete.

We will select Task 1 for Word Processing – Structuring your documents

Some Tasks contain sample files which you will work with. On page 3 of this Word Processing Task (above) we can see the location to which these files have been downloaded. This will be a folder within the Task folder to which you downloaded your Task Player and each set of associated Task files. As you work with these sample files you may wish to save the edited files (your personal work files) in the same location. It is important that you save your work to a location which you have controlled personal access to if you wish to access your work again at a later date. If you are working in a learning centre and wish to take your work home with you, make sure that you copy your work onto a transferable storage medium such as a floppy disk. Ask the learning centre staff if you are in any doubt as to where or how to save your work.
Further information on how to use the Task Player can be found in the Help pages at the start of your online course.
