The Consolidation Assignments have been designed to enable you to practice the learning points covered within the learning materials. As you work through your course you will be prompted to complete the consolidation materials where relevant. Completed assignments should be sent to Dave or your tutor for review and feedback.
Ensure that you have selected the relevant course. To use the consolidation materials you need to download the required files for the Consolidation Assignment that you wish to complete. For the purpose of this example we will download IT2: Create Manage and Integrate Files – Assignment 3 to a floppy disk.
Log on to your course via the learndirect website, select see course topics, and select the topic entitled Consolidation Assignments (not the individually numbered assessments).

The following screen will be displayed in a new window.
Click on the consolidation assignments link.
Ensure that you have a folder set up (I will use one called My Learning later on) or a floppy disk in your A: drive if you are going to use a floppy disk.
Click the Assignment to select it now

A screen similar to the example shown will be displayed:

Ensure that the Save this program to disk option is selected. In Windows 98 you should select Save to Disk. In Win XP you would use Save.
Now you need to tell the PC where to save, I set up a folder called My Learning in the My Documents folder. You can use the Floppy A: drive if you wish.
Click Save.
The following screen may briefly appear to indicate that the requested file is being downloaded.
Now you need to find the My Learning folder (or floppy disk) using Windows Explorer and double click the Winzip file to open it.

One or both of the following screens may then be displayed:

Click on the Browse button and select the folder for your learning.
I am using the My Learning folder here. You can use the Floppy A: drive if you wish.
Now Click OK and you should see something like the following as the files are unzipped.
You should see the unzipped files in behind now – “EC2AsInternet and Internet Questions”.
Click OK and then Close.
Now go back to the My Learning folder (or floppy) and you will see the unzipped files. Double Click the file with the big blue circle and white d on it.
This opens the Assignment instruction tool.
There are two specific types of files used within the Consolidation Assignments, a learndirect file and the required data files. The file represented by a learndirect logo contains your assignment instructions. This file may show the extension .exe depending on how your computer has been set up.
The other file is a data file, which you will use as instructed. The number of data files will vary and for some Assignments there are no data files. Data files may be Word documents, text files, Excel spreadsheets, Access databases, PowerPoint presentations, graphics files etc.
The instructions for the Consolidation Assignments are designed to run in a small window on the screen. You simply need to double click on the learndirect file which you have saved to your computer. An instruction panel will then open up on screen.
The instructions have been designed with simple navigation tools and they will always stay on top of the screen allowing you to work in the application while following the instructions.
The first screen you will see includes some basic information to remind you how to navigate through the assignment instructions.
You can return to this screen at any time by clicking on the learndirect logo.
You may need to move the instruction panel around the screen from time to time. You can do this easily by clicking the anchor button and dragging until you are happy with the location of the panel.

To complete all aspects of these assignments you will need a full installation of Microsoft Office including ClipArt and should have a printer configured and connected to your computer. Where differences may occur depending on how your computer is set up you will be informed.
The example below relates to the IT2: Create Manage and Integrate Files course. A file will be uploaded for Consolidation Assignment 3.
1) To upload assignment files you will need to select the appropriate course from my current learning then click on see course topics.

2) You then need to scroll down to the assessment details links and select the appropriate Consolidation Assignment link.

3) The following screen will be displayed.

4) You will then need to use the Browse button to locate the data file that you saved when completing the assignment. This should be on a floppy disk or an appropriate drive specified by the learning centre.

5) To select the file you will need to ensure that the appropriate file is displayed in the File name box and click on the Open button.
6) When you have selected the required file you need to click the Submit button.
7) The following dialog box will be displayed to show you that the file has been submitted:
8) Your Consolidation Assignment page will now display the filename for each file submitted for this assignment.
It is possible to upload multiple files or reworked versions of earlier files to the same Consolidation Assignment slot.
For some assignments you may need to upload more than one file. Proceed through the upload process for each file required in turn. You will see each filename added to the list of files submitted.
I will review the uploaded files and will provide you with feedback.
To access this feedback, from my current learning select the see course topics option and then view the assessment link for the Consolidation Assignment that you are interested in. You can also access feedback through the see new feedback link.
You can then see the status of assignments. You can see that you have submitted a file, whether it has been checked and assessed by me and you can view your feedback.
